Groundation Grenada Open Call: 2014 Internship

Groundation Grenada is now accepting applications for our 2014 internship program. We are seeking to appoint two candidates, preferably current university/college students or recent graduates living in Grenada. This is a unique opportunity to explore interests in areas of social justice, art & film, journalism, public health, education and community building, under the guidance of and in co-operation with an experienced and radical team. Positions:

  • Editorial & Outreach Intern
  • Project Intern

Duration: Both internships last for approx 6 months (15th June 2014 thru December 2014)

Approx. hours: 8-10 hours per week

Location: Most of the internship’s operations will be based online. Candidates will also be required to participate in check-in meetings, group working meetings and help coordinate Groundation events.

Requirements of Applicants:

  • Preferably a current college/university student or recent graduate
  • Living in Grenada between June and December 2014
  • Consistent and reliable internet access
  • 
Competence with Microsoft Office
  • Independent worker who understands accountability and teamwork
  • An attention to detail and an ability to follow through
  • Familiarity with audio/video & photo editing programs is a plus

Description & Responsibilities: Under the guidance of our Co-Directors, Groundation Interns will have an opportunity to develop a creative practice and professional work ethic, in addition to getting involved with a locally based group that is becoming internationally recognised. As a Groundation Intern you will be encouraged to pursue your passions and gain inspiration from unconventional places. You will have the chance to spearhead at least one project, adding a concrete milestone to your work experience. Internship tasks include:

Editorial & Outreach Intern

  • Organize and maintain contact database of artists, writers and organisers locally, regionally & internationally
  • Develop a solid writing practice via editorial and creative work
  • Help with graphic design and audio/visual production
  • Coordinate writing and editorial schedule for blog
  • Assist in social media presence and management
  • Perform general administrative and editorial tasks

 

Project Intern

  • Work collaboratively with artists, writers and organisers on local, regional & international levels
  • Act as a Liaison for visiting artists and guests
  • Plan and execute events and special projects
  • Assist in documenting events and progress on initiatives
  • 
Assist in social media presence and management
  • Be involved with team research, marketing, and community outreach
  • Help with graphic design and audio/visual production
  • Perform general administrative tasks

Groundation Grenada has grown nicely since 2009 and we’ve gained serious momentum in recent years. Our work is being increasingly recognized and we now have more access to opportunities than ever before. Since avenues for funding our projects are becoming increasingly available we are expanding the Groundation Grenada family to include a Fundraising Intern.

Soliciting funding, including grant writing, requires commitment as well as a particular skill set in being able to know what information is relevant to funders and in being able to craft successful funding pitches.

Duration: The internship will last for approx 6 months.

Approx. hours: 8-10 hours per week

Location: Most of the internship’s operations will be based online. Candidates will also be required to participate in check-in meetings, group working meetings and help coordinate Groundation events.

Requirements of Applicants:

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a small team
  • Excellent written and oral communication and Internet research skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • The discipline to follow up with correspondence when necessary
  • Respect for deadlines
  • Reliable internet access
  • A smart phone (for accessibility sake)

Experience in writing successful grants will be considered an advantage.

  • Support potential artists in residence in their effort to acquire funding to participate in our residency program.
  • Draw relevant funding and other opportunities to the rest of the team’s attention.
  • Draft grant proposals and other necessary documents to solicit funds.
  • Maintain database records
  • Attend webinars and other events aimed at improving fundraising capacity
  • Submit weekly check-ins with brief update on current projects.
