The Youth Advocacy Movement (YAM) Internship Opportunity
Grenada’s Youth Advocacy Movement (YAM) is accepting applications for their Communications and Social Media Intern position (Deadline: Friday January 31st 2014). YAM is an innovative approach to addressing Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) needs in Caribbean states, which are members of the International Planned Parenthood Federation/Western Hemisphere Region (IPPF/WHR). YAM groups across the region achieve this by using media, technology, peer education and advocacy to provoke change in young people, Family Planning Associations (FPAs), education systems, decision makers and governments. YAM Grenada is seeking a dynamic, self-starter to manage its communications and social media efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of social media communications while working for a well-known ASRH youth-led organization. This is an unpaid volunteer position.
Responsibilities:
- To update and maintain YAM’s social media presence via Facebook, and Twitter
- To assist in planning, writing and managing monthly blog post via BlogSpot
- Draft, distribute and pitch news releases, media alerts and other stories
- Design flyers, graphics, e-vites and other communication material for major events hosted by YAM
- Reach out to the Ministry of Youth, youth-led community organizations, general public and funders with the message about YAM’s mission to advance adolescent sexual and reproductive health rights
Qualifications:
- Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
- Completed or working towards a community college degree
- Good English Language and Literature grades with previous experience writing
- Must be computer literate (working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher)
- Proficiency in Adobe and Photoshop highly desired. Knowledge of HTML and graphic design a plus
- An effective communicator, both written and oral
- An ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts
- Self-motivated, exceptional organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Enthusiasm for the mission of YAM Grenada and the adolescents and young people we serve
Rewards:
Hours: 8 hours/week unsupervised, 2 hours/week in office
