Yoga in honor of International Women’s Day in Grenada

March 12, 2012

Harmony Thru Movement held on International Women’s Day (IWD), 8th March 2012, was an incredible event to experience. A beautifully diverse group of about 35 people came out at 5pm to join in a yoga class on the grass in Camerhogne Park by Grand Anse Beach in Grenada.

Malaika Brooks-Smith-Lowe, Co-founder of Groundation Grenada, our collective, is also Co-founder of The Spice Harmony Yoga Studio, the host of the event. Harmony Thru Movement was not only a celebration of all women but a fundraiser of The Cedars Home for Abused Women & their children. The initiative, which is still receiving donations, has almost doubled their goal so far. In addition, when the World Health Organization for Students at The St. George’s University found out about the initiative they decided to have a bake sale on 7th March to add to the money raised for the Cedars Home! As of right now, the total funds raised is growing closer to $2000. Malaika has also arranged to visit the home to guide the women, their children and staff (since everyone couldn’t attend the event) through breathing exercises and yoga postures in hopes of helping to contribute to their healing and growth.
