Groundation Interviews ~ Delesse Francis

video by : Macfarlane Film

Where are you from & Where do you live now?
I’m originally from Belmont, Trinidad and Tobago, but was living in Aranguez until I moved to Rome, Italy where I am temporarily.

What do you do besides write/perform poetry?
Other than write/perform, I am into anything sports related. I also do photography, compose music, play instruments and I am a budding recording artist/ sound engineer and DJ. Currently I am studying in Italy- sadly nothing related to music.

When you write, do you sit and think through every word of every stanza or do you just write freely and allowing the words to flow?
No, I usually put pen to paper and hope for the best lol. My hands just start moving while my thoughts pour out on paper. When I’m finished, I read it to see if it makes sense…and it usually does. I can only do this when I am very moved or emotional about something though.

When did you first start writing and were there any incidents in your life that made you want to write?
I used to write a lot when I was younger, but never took it seriously. I first tried a spoken word type of poetry when I attended my first open mic event and fell in love with it. After that, I began composing music and poetry…About a year later, I finally got the courage to perform in public. I write a lot when I am extremely emotional like most people but I also go though long periods of writers block.

How did you go about conceptualizing the video for the poem?
I actually had no idea what to do for the video. I approached Director Robert Macfarlane of Macfarlane Film to do a video for the poem. He came up with the ideas for the video. I think his ideas were great and it really got the emotion I wanted to convey through the poem.

What book(s) are you currently reading?
Currently I am reading a few books on my Kindle. Right now I am on ‘The Third Eye’ by T. Lobsang Rampa

What was your first favorite book?
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne- it still is.

What is one book you haven’t read but want to read before you die?
I don’t have any one book, but I will like to read all the books from Rampa and maybe read the entire bible…Haven’t managed to get through that one as yet.

I also write short stories and other types of poetry that are not ‘love- related’.

This iwas a brilliant video for a brilliant poem. I really love the creativity used with simple, everyday items like the peephole.
